The biggest difference is that the 3D vision can be more precise and accurate compared to the 2D visual cues that we might use to understand the depth of objects around us. Shadows, size, and other indicators help us to determine how close and how far something is from us both when we have 3D vision and when we do not. Otherwise, items in the world appear flat or 2D and we must use adaptations to see what others can see by just looking at an item. We need both eyes together to see in stereopsis. When patients have good stereovision, it can be an indicator of their binocular function as well. Stereopsis is divided into two main components - coarse (or gross) stereopsis, which is important for large amounts of depth, and fine stereopsis, which is important for very small amounts of depth. ![]() So one arcsecond is 1/3,600th of a degree or 1/1,260,000th of a circle! That's some really fine vision! Each minute of arc can be further divided into 60 smaller segments - this is termed a second of arc (or arcsecond). In geometry, this 1-degree segment can be further divided into 60 smaller segments, termed minutes of arc. So, one degree of a circle represents 1/360th of the circle. To understand how small, first think of a circle that is made of up 360 degrees all the way around - the other way to think of this is a circle is made of 360 individual 1-degree segments. Stereopsis is measured in the value seconds of arc - this is actually a very small value. This is termed disparity and is the critical item that is measured in a stereopsis test. The slightly different perspective each eye sees is due to images falling on slightly different points on the retina of the eye. This becomes important when objects are close to one another or the task requires the visual system to provide exact information on where the body is relative to an object (thing threading a needle). This slight offset causes our visual system to see an image from a slightly different perspective (try it now by looking at something far away and moving your hand back and forth between each eye!) The combination of these slightly different images allows the visual system to judge fine depth and create a 3-dimensional interpretation of the image. The spacing between our eyes gives us an advantage. This is complex when compared to Bevel&Emboss effect which makes the simpler button with a couple of clicks. all parts have a little different sizes and they are moved a little apart to make the highlight and the shadow occur at the right sides. In the middle there's a brighter version for highlight and in the bottom there's a dark version for shadow. Blur makes the edges of the parts below visible. On the top theres a blurred rounded rectangle. They are ungrouped and moved apart in the right. The rest of the parts are a group which contains three elements. It's inserted to the rest parts by selecting all and applying Object > Clip > Set One button is dissassembled in the next image: The buttons are themselves groups and they have a clipping path to restrict the blur. In the bottom there's a blurred rounded rectangle which makes the dark edge shadows which can be seen in the top edge and in the bottom edge. On the top there's 2 simpler buttons which are otherwise identical but have different sizes. The group is ungrouped and the parts are moved apart in the right. The button in the left is a group of three elements. The parts of the stacked elements an be accessed in the Objects panel, no matter they are inside groups or have clipping paths. The number of stacked elements is high, but you hopefully learn soon how to make copies and edit them. You can get the smooth gradients by inserting blur. In Inkscape you can stack elements to get something which at least resembles the wanted structure.
